Middle School Physical Education
North Haven Middle School students will participate in Physical Education in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. The goal of the Middle School Physical Education Curriculum is to assist the students in developing and demonstrating lifelong physical activity and overall social, emotional and physical well being. The Physical Education curriculum is aligned with the 2021 Healthy and Balanced Living Curriculum Framework.
There are three teachers in the Physical Education and Health Department. The teachers create and promote a positive class environment which fosters a positive rapport with students and the teacher. This aids in understanding each student’s learning needs to ensure all students' are being appropriately challenged and can demonstrate academic growth. Teaching and learning emphasis is on students' movement and development of simple to more complex knowledge and skills from grades 6th-8th. The students are assessed on class preparation, vocabulary and demonstration of skills and knowledge through modified games and game play.
Each grade has specific grade appropriate units of instruction. Students will participate in a variety of team sports, individual sports, and fitness activities. Sportsmanship, achieving your personal best, and demonstrating a positive attitude are pillars to success. Students are encouraged to participate to their own level of success and achievement. Sixth and Eighth grade students also participate in the Connecticut Physical Fitness Test.
