Art 6-8

The North Haven Middle School Art Program

The NH Art program 6-8 emphasizes a Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE) Fine Arts approach to all course offerings in support of the National Art Standards (CCSS). The curriculum consists of elective options that provide students with a wide range of learning opportunities focusing on intelligent problem-solving, exploration of media/techniques, respectful classroom collaborations and development of strong art/literacy/communication skills.Students work to develop/demonstrate quality craftsmanship and critical thinking rooted in the Design Elements and Principles.

Most importantly, each student is encouraged to reach his/her potential for creative self-expression and to develop lifelong 21st century skills/abilities. Opportunities are made available for students to participate in art/community exhibitions/competitions/events sponsored by organizations such as The Little Lions, NH Garden Club and the annual "Art Beat" that celebrates the artistic talents and achievements of NH children. After-school enrichment opportunities are also available and interested students should reach out to the NHMS Art staff for more information.
