Cheesefare Sunday is the third Sunday of the pre-Lenten start of the Easter cycle and has a focus on forgiveness. Cheesefare Sunday is also referred to as "Adam’s Lament" in remembrance of how Adam was banished from Eden. Those who participate join with Adam and Eve in expressing their sorrow over the sins and prepare for their Lenten journey towards Easter. Traditionally, this is the final week to have parties and celebrations that are not proper to the solemn nature of the Lenten season. Big parties, weddings, and other major celebrations are rarely permitted during Lent. Due to this, people splurge on these activities during this week in anticipation of them being given up.
