Reformation Day commemorates the day the German Monk Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Church. The day in 1517 Luther had planned to shed light on the indulgences in the Roman Catholic Church that allowed the rich to defy sin.
The protestations quickly gained public favor, sparking further debate on the opinion of the church, eventually resulting in the religious revolution known as the Reformation. Many Christians broke away from the Roman Catholic Church establishing their own churches leading to the creation of many denominations known as Protestant churches.
Protestants now make up around 40% of the Christian demographic, with the first Reformation day being commemorated in the seventeenth century around the Germanic region.
